The Incredible Hulk #1
Many
super hero characters make their debut in another comic book series. The
Incredible Hulk was so big, that Stan Lee and Jim Kirby decided to release
his first appearance in his own comic series.
The Hulk's first comic book appearance was "The
Incredible Hulk #1" from Marvel Comics and was created by Stan Lee and
Jack Kirby. The Hulk's debut comic was first released in 1962 and is
currently valued at $21,500.
In the first issue the Hulk was grey. The
writing group behind the comic wanted to use a color that did not suggest
any particular ethnic group. Colorist Stan Goldberg, then made a suggestion
to Stan Lee to change the Hulk's colors as they could not regulate a
consistent color for every comic, since the coloring technology at the time
was lacking. From issue #2 and on, the Hulk's skin color would then be
green.
The original Hulk series was canceled
after six issues, with the final cover-dated comic in March 1963. Once the
series ended, the Hulk made a quick comeback and appeared in The Fantastic
Four series and months later became a founding member of the Avengers.
